Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Luang Prabang arrival (GP)

Upon arrival at Luang Prabang airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After a short rest, you will climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as viewing a beautiful and panoramic sunset over the ancient and once royal city and the Mekong River. In the evening, you will stroll around the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of textiles made by the local and the hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. You will spend the night in Luang Prabang.

Day 2: Luang Prabang/Pak Ou Caves (B, L, G)
After breakfast, you will visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun, the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai, the city's oldest temple Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, representing classical Laotian architecture. After that, you will board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which gives us a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. En-route, you will stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where the local specialty of rice wine is produced. You will spend the night in a hotel.

Day 3: Luang Prabang Coooking class/Kuangsi Waterfall (B, L, G)
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.

After breakfast at hotel, you will learn more about Lao traditional with a wonderful cooking class taught by one of the best royal palace chefs in Luang Prabang. You may wish to experience how indigenous people of Luang Prabang prepare their meals with incredible ingredients, making your meal fantastic and unforgettable. You will visit the morning Phosi Market where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Select the best and fresh items, such as; fish, meats, chicken, pork, vegetable, garlic, chilies. Return to the local restaurant Roop and Reap where you will get the cooking class and prepare your lunch. Taste your food with the local chef.

In the afternoon, you will be driven to visit local village of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay and Ban Thapene. If time permits, you may also wish to drive to the beautiful Kuangsi Waterfall where you can splash around in the turquoise pools or walk along the forest paths. You will spend the night in Luang Prabang.

Day 4: Luang Prabang departure (B, G)

After breakfast at hotel, you will visit the National Museum (close Tuesday) at the former Royal Palace, which displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign before transferring to airport for your departure flight. Tour ends.
