Every year, after the Tết holidays, when the apricot flowers whiten Huong Son forest, thousands of people make a pilgrimage towards Huong pagoda. The festival season starts from January 6th until the end of lunar March.
Visitors can come to the pagoda by the overland route from Ha Dong - Van Dinh - Huong Son or from Phu Ly town in counter-current of Day river towards Ben Duc - Yen Vi - Huong Son. Following the second route, along side of Yen river towards Huong Son, visitors will have the occasion to see the change of landscapes in Huong Son around the transparent and cool water current with the very red flowers around. Many people chose this way to come there. January 6 is the opening date; people organize the dragon dance in the court of Trinh temple and on the boat along side of Yen river. The festival is extended on three lines: Huong Tich, Tuyet Son and Long Van. But the participants are the most numerous from 15 to February 20. The mountainous road which binds the Ngoai (External) pagoda and the Trong (Interior) one is always tumultuous with crowd.
Huong Son in the heart of Vietnamese children is regarded as the world of Buddha where the faithful Buddhists do not miss to come in the pilgrimage in their life. Making the pilgrimage to Huong pagoda is not simply to celebrate a Buddhist festival but also to contemplate the beautiful landscapes and the vestiges of Huong Son recognized as cultural heritages of the country.
